Position Overview
Talent Search is a TRIO college access program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Through early intervention, this program is designed to encourage participants to remain in school, graduate from high school, and to pursue post-secondary education. Talent Search works with 932 middle and high school students in Kansas City, KS (more specifically Kansas City Kansas Public School District).

The ideal candidate will present a professional demeanor and handle situations with tact and diplomacy; have excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills, accept feedback, and implement changes as needed. The ability to work independently, attention to detail, and complete tasks in a timely manner are important. Overall, we are seeking high-energy team members who can advise middle and high school students on college, career, and academic topics via phone advising and/or zoom.

The schedule and number of hours per week will be determined at time of hire based on individual preference and needs of the program. This position will be expected to assist with virtual and in-person programming.
Job Description
Student Services (50%)
  • Assist staff with virtual workshops and in-person events/activities
  • Perform advising and mentoring with program participants via remote or in-person as needed.
Student Records Management, Tracking, Program Guidance, and Office Tasks (50%)
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation regarding participant contacts
  • Perform general office tasks (filing, data entry, mailings, phone calls, organization, etc.)
  • Provide effective lines of communications with Director
Position Requirements
This position will be hybrid. The successful candidate(s) is expected to assist with virtual and in-person programming.

Office space will be available in the Talent Search office in Kansas City, KS, though an alternate location for virtual/remote work may be acceptable.
Required Qualifications
  1. Current college student status, including graduate student status, or earned Bachelor's degree
  2. Experience working with target population (middle and high school students)
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Prior experience working with TRIO or similar programs
  2. TRIO alum status
  3. Bi-lingual (i.e., Spanish)
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines, and follow through on details to completion as evidenced by application materials
  5. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication as evidenced by application materials
