Overview

A Cardiac Perfusionist provides extracorporeal perfusion services and related procedures to a defined patient population utilizing the heart lung machine during open heart surgery. They also provide extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VAD) support for patients requiring long term extracorporeal support for pulmonary and/or cardiac failure. Additionally, they provide auto-transfusion services for intra-operative blood salvage, and utilize POC laboratory equipment to provide blood gas, electrolyte, glucose and activated clotting time testing in the OR. They participate in performance improvement activities, education and training of staff, and clinical research. Lastly, they work in tandem with perfusion assistants to maintain equipment and monitor par levels of disposable supplies for the department.

Responsibilities
    Under the direction of the Chief Perfusionist, works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, CVOR and ICU staff to provide optimal patient care. Directs and supervises perfusion students, residents, interns and nursing personnel in the proper use of perfusion equipment in OR, ICUs and on inter-hospital transports.
  • Performs CPB, in-house and transport ECMO and VADs and assists in ECMO and VAD training of other professionals.
  • Promotes a successful learning environment for perfusion students, and nursing colleagues
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and clinical research.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Perfusion Technology
    • 3-5 years pediatric experience preferred
  • Certified Clinical Perfusionist
    • CCP - ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist, American Board of Clinical Perfusion certification as Cardiac Perfusionist (CCP) Required Upon Hire
  • Licensed Clinical Perfusionist
    • CLIN PERF LIC MO - Licensed Clinical Perfusionist, Missouri Board of Healing Arts license as Cardiac Perfusionist Required Upon Hire
Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive, the offer will be determined based on your education and experience. This role does qualify for call pay as call is required on a rotation.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
