Job Description:

What you'll be doing:

  • Maintenance Leader are expected to be "On call" 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Although not required to be "On site", must have the ability to make decisions for mechanical repairs or modifications of equipment when away from the facility.
  • Expected to maintain all mechanical equipment and systems within the facility and grounds except those maintained by service agreements established with outside vendors.
  • Responsible for "owning" Financial/Operational spending for department by staying within the approved budget. Assists with planning capital expenditures.
  • Communicate with every shift to assign work duties and reviews actual performance from the previous 24 hours. Emphasizes continuous learning by discussing root cause of mechanical failures or breakdowns, and reviews key procedures that impact costs and quality control.
  • Holds Associates accountable for compliance with all quality control, productivity, safety, housekeeping, GMP, SQF, and ISO standards, and communicates expectations and procedures.
  • Establishes a productive tempo on the plant floor by working with a steady and purposeful pace and presence in the plant.
  • Insists that the Maintenance team works proactively and with a sense of urgency to facilitate systematic and timely repairs to all manufacturing and support equipment. This supports product quality, efficiencies and "On Time Delivery" through a consistent approach, and minimizes scrap.
  • Maintains a proactive "Preventative Maintenance Program" on all production and key non-production pieces of equipment. Provides work instruction to the Maintenance Technicians for "Preventative Maintenance" based on set parameters for each piece of equipment.
  • Makes sure that Maintenance Technicians document key repairs and records the materials and parts needed for the repairs.
  • Maintains an inventory of key replacement parts, hardware, lubricants, and operating materials that may be specialized to the various production departments.
  • Drives strict compliance with all GMP and food safety policies that pertain to the maintenance functions within the facility.
  • Trains, guides, and assists Associates in the successful execution of their roles. Coordinates training of new Associates by assigning a qualified trainer, and monitoring the timely completion and documentation of the training program.
  • Maintains a safe and secure workplace, responsible for the mechanical operation of the plant and its contents. Assumes the role of "Acting Plant Manager" during the off-shifts and any time the Plant Manager is not on the premises.
  • Monitors and enforces Associates' breaks for both rule compliance and productivity. Ideally coordinates breaks in each department to keep machines running as much time as possible.
  • Ensures accuracy of payroll records, and provides performance evaluations and pay reviews for Associates in a timely and objective manner.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Detail-orientation required for completing required paperwork and information system's inputs with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Previous flexographic printing experience and mechanical aptitude/experience is highly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory/management/leadership experience in an industrial production environment with the related safety training is preferred.
  • Previous machining, welding, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows computing programs and experience with business operating systems a must with some degree of proficiency required.
  • Able to read and understand written instructions and provide verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and required tasks.
  • Capable of performing mathematical calculations, and properly using tape measures and micrometers.
  • Flexibility in work assignments and priorities is required to address the dynamic needs of our customers and shifts in production requirements.
  • Previous budget management and fiscal year budget planning skills are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and ensure proper handling of items up to 50 pounds. The Maintenance Leader should consider themselves a "player-coach", willing to pitch in and lead by example as necessary.
  • Must be capable of standing for the duration of a work shift less breaks and lunch.
  • Must be capable and willing to work in excess of a normal workweek as production demands dictate.
  • Must be able to distinguish and ensure product quality in a fast paced production environment.
  • Must be able to identify, prioritize, and meet multiple expectations for areas of responsibility.
  • Must have the physical dexterity to bend, stand, flex, and reach as the position dictates.

  • Must travel (up to 10%) as required; overnight travel may be required.
