Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION

Assist the pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient and pharmacy records in a manner consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures. Pharmacy technician activities are performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

  1. Read and interpret provider's medication orders
  2. Assist in filling, processing, and dispensing medications
  3. Be able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers
  4. Re-package and label medications
  5. Adhere to safety practices to ensure quality care for patients
  6. Help maintain pharmacy inventory through inventory control practices
  7. Provide customer service by answering phone calls and assisting patients in person in a prompt and courteous manner
  8. Triage and prioritize requests
  9. Check for expiration dates of medications
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Kansas Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (either PTCB or ExCPT)

Individual must:

  • Maintain continuing education requirements per Pharmacy Technician Certification requirements
  • Possess strong prioritization skills and an ability to make decisions independently and effectively
  • Be able to operate equipment such as computers, scan guns, tablet counters, and cash registers
  • Maintain familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices
  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations
  • Be friendly, cheerful and helpful to patients and others and able to meet patients' needs while following office policies and procedures
  • Have ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Maintain ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities
  • Display a positive attitude and is a positive agent for change
  • Work as part of a team and collaborate with co-workers
  • Be able to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish highly preferred
  • Associate's degree
  • 1 year of experience in community pharmacy preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.

  • Position involves extensive use of computer, telephone, fax and copier equipment.
  • Frequent standing and walking required.
  • Will have close contact with patients and is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful clearance from Criminal, Kansas and Missouri Child/Elder Abuse and Neglect and Sex Offender background investigations, TB testing, and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Verification of COVID, and annual flu vaccination.
  • Verification of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella and Hepatitis-B.
