Job Description

Job Objective: Responsible for administration, coordination, and development of volunteer services for South Central Area Command. Responsible for volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, recognition, and evaluation of volunteers.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the fundraising goals of South Central Area Command through the strategic use of volunteers
  • Regularly secure and present volunteer opportunities to businesses, community organizations, and government agencies
  • Represent The Salvation Army at special community engagement events
  • Recruit qualified volunteers by collecting and screening applications
  • Manage and maintain Salvation Army volunteer database
  • Provide training for other staff using the volunteer database
  • Track volunteer work details and hours and update monthly reports
  • Conduct orientation for new volunteers
  • Provide training and continuing education for volunteers
  • Develop and maintain volunteer job descriptions and program guides to aid in volunteer skill matching and training
  • Create a monthly E-newsletter to volunteer highlighting opportunities and statistics
  • Assess needs and schedule volunteers to for all the various programs and projects
  • Maintain and update, as needed, a volunteer procedure manual
  • Collaborate with Development staff to create brochures, flyers, and online media for promoting volunteer partnership needs throughout Sedgwick and Butler Counties
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with community organizations for volunteer and program support
  • Assists with planning, production, and logistics of special events for South Central Area Command
  • Design, train and assist volunteers with large group projects. (churches, corporate groups, clubs, etc.)
  • Participate in annual, seasonal, and corps events as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers and volunteer projects, and experience managing a volunteer database is preferred.

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work with all levels of staff, Officers, volunteers, clients, media, donors, and the community at large
  • Superior writing, communication, clerical and organizational skills
  • Excellent telephone communication/customer service skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently on assigned projects and tasks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with a volunteer database

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct and coordinate volunteers

Physical Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision ability; manual dexterity; lifting, pulling and pushing materials up to 25 pounds; bending, squatting, and walking; sitting up to eight hours per day; standing up to eight hours per day. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: Sedgwick and Butler Counties, Kansas

Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment; some evening and weekend work.
