Flint Hills Resources is actively looking for a self-motivated Electrical Engineer, specializing in Power Systems, to join our Pipelines and Terminals ICE Engineering team. This role can be based in Wichita, KS, or Rosemount, MN.

The Power Systems Engineer will anticipate customer needs, supporting pipelines and terminals across the Midwest while applying sound engineering practices for long-term project value. Collaborating with other Koch companies, they share and leverage knowledge profitably. Additionally, the engineer provides occasional after-hours support to address electrical equipment issues.


Our Team

The ICE Engineering Team (Instrument, Control, Electrical) is a group of approximately 20 Electrical Engineers and Automation Technician professionals that provide design, implementation, and commissioning support for 4000 miles of pipeline and approximately 60 Petroleum, Asphalt, and Ammonia terminals and booster stations. This team has responsibility for all things electrical and manages both power and control systems design.

What You Will Do

  • Apply industry standards and codes to design, implement, commission, and maintain low and medium voltage electrical power distribution systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering contractors, and vendors to develop scopes of work and support capital projects.
  • Provide detailed review and approval of deliverables from engineering contractors supporting project electrical scope.
  • Evaluate and apply new technology to advance FHR's electrical capability.
  • Collaborate with the company's Electrical Safe Work team, offering solutions to reduce Incident Energy and create a safer work environment.
  • Manage the Arc Flash Program, including conducting studies, performing, and verifying models, reviewing and generating labels.
  • Serve as a project manager for the electrical scope, overseeing contractors and other team resources to complete projects and tasks.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for power-related problems, including restoration and root cause analysis of equipment failure


  • Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial setting and/or as a consultant/project manager.
  • Familiar with applicable role specific industry standards/codes such as NEC, 70E, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain engineering documents related to electrical systems (e.g., one lines, panel schedules, schematics, wiring diagrams).
  • Proven ability to specify electrical equipment and evaluate vendor proposals across the full spectrum of power system equipment.
  • Experience in determining protective parameters for electrical equipment/infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time (travel averages around 25%, with potential sustained peaks driven by project schedules and workload).

  • A motivation or desire to develop additional skills that add value to your role.
  • Experience supporting the petrochemicals industry and/or fuel and asphalt pipelines and terminals
  • Experience supporting industrial control systems, including PLC/HMI programming and equipment configuration
  • Experience in programming a variety electrical protective relays
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in instrumentation, automation systems, and process control solutions
  • Experience developing equipment reliability strategies and lifecycle plans.
  • Experience with devices that provide IIoT capabilities and a strong desire to transform our work practices.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and hands-on experience related to predictive, preventative, and analytical testing methods to determine asset health condition
  • Demonstrated ability to assess electrical system performance and load studies to develop and implement recommendations for improvements
