Compensation: $18.50 /hr
Worksite Location: South Campus

Overview / Job Summary:
The position works directly within area high schools with students, faculty, and staff to engage high school students and inspire them to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities.

The position serves area high schools (office and classrooms) by providing a flow of information about college and career readiness including FAFSA, college, and scholarship applications. The College Advantage Connector will offer individual Financial Aid advising to high school students and provide group workshop/training presentations within schools and community educational partnerships. The position works to make a difference in schools by fostering a college-going culture among students, and ultimately provides motivation and support for students to achieve goals and an opportunity for a successful life.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:
 
  • Regularly engages with and educates community K-12 partners and community-based organizations to advance college access and attainment.
  • Visits classrooms, assemblies, and club meetings to offer services and emphasize the necessity of post-secondary educational opportunities.
  • Provides training and guidance for students and families in all aspects of the college and career planning process. Training may be through individual, small group, and classroom settings.
  • Establishes and maintains productive collegial relationships with principals, school counselors, college and career coordinators, and teachers in assigned high school as well as other community-based college access professionals.
  • Assesses, in consultation with WSU Tech and the high school, the assets and needs of the assigned school and adapts programs and activities to expand services provided.
  • Builds and maintains expertise in admissions and financial aid advising.
This position will require flexibility to work various shifts & locations to meet the needs of the students and community served, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:
  • Three or more years of experience working in higher education. Experience in recruiting, college admissions, student services, or school counseling preferred.
  • Ability to effectively partner with students, faculty, and staff including those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous experience demonstrating strong leadership abilities, influencing others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas.
  • Ability to serve independently and analytically, exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication & presentation skills; proficient computer skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects (multi-task); prioritize with strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to handle complex and detail-oriented tasks and projects.
  • High energy, creativity, ability to assume responsibility; take initiative and develop new programs.
  • Dependable transportation to and from your service site.
