Interstate Power System's is looking for a Field Generator Mechanic/Technician(s) to work out of the greater Kansas City area, supporting our regional business.

A Power Generation Technician/Mechanic is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment used in generating electricity in combination with diesel engines. Their duties include monitoring power generation systems, performing routine maintenance checks, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing repairs as needed. They ensure that power generation equipment operates efficiently and safely to meet energy demands. Additionally, they may be involved in upgrading systems to improve performance and implementing safety protocols. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various conditions are essential for this role. Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Job Duties:

  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on all makes of generators.
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
  • Completing preventative maintenance and repairs on generators or components at the customer site with minimal direction.
  • Diagnose, repair, adjust, and modify all components of the generator, engine, and switch gear.
  • Positive interface with service writers, foreman, parts department, and customers
  • Keep paperwork updated and handed in upon completion.
  • Meet requirements for certifications.
  • Perform administrative duties as related to role.

Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial power generation sets.
  • Experience with diesel and natural gas engines, electrical switch gear, and automatic transfer switches
  • Must have your own set of general tools.
  • Be able to work with diagnostic computers for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Use computers for web-based training and repair order system.
  • Must be physically able to lift and work with no restrictions.
  • Clean driving record and the ability to pass a D.O.T. Physical

Ideal Power Generation Technician/Mechanic Candidate qualities:

  • Technical degree or certification a plus
  • Positive attitude and excellent customer relationship skills
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
  • The ability to set goals and accomplish them.
  • The desire to take advantage of certification opportunities to have the most updated product training.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work with little supervision.
