Description

Position Summary: The Health & Safety Supervisor maintains a variety of occupational health and safety programs related to the safety of our employees and in compliance with applicable government regulations. It is the responsibility of the Health & Safety Supervisor to help identify hazardous workplace conditions, ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and ensure necessary records are maintained in accordance with established guidelines. The Health & Safety Supervisor is responsible for initial medical treatment of injured employees and the management of the Workers' Compensation claim that results. The Health & Safety Supervisor must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures.

Reports To: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Essential Job Functions/ Key Accountabilities:

  • Implement, review and revise written safety programs and procedures.
  • Perform relevant inspections and audits capturing and delegating necessary countermeasures.
  • Document and maintain regulatory records including incident reports and OSHA Logs.
  • Measure and track Safety KPI's.
  • Respond to EHS related incidents and participate in incident investigation.
  • Recommend countermeasures based on incident investigation and collaborate with operating departments to implement them.
  • Coach and counsel Production Employees, supervisors, and managers on improving safety of the work area and of specific required tasks.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities for key kaizen and safety and environment improvement champion at all levels of the organization.
  • Identify and manage correction of safety and environmental deficiencies.
  • Maintain an accurate chemical and hazardous materials inventory.
  • Perform Risk Assessments of specific jobs/tasks along with employees/supervision/management on the plant floor, serving as the barometer for rating riskiness of jobs between departments.
  • Track Risk Assessment Numbers and create reports for operating departments demonstrating the risk of specific jobs and tasks within the department.
  • Prioritize Risk Reduction efforts based on highest risk jobs.
  • Recommend countermeasures for risk reduction and collaborate with operating departments to implement them.
  • Estimate risk reduction based on hierarchy of risk, measure real reduction upon implementation of countermeasures.
  • Administer various safety programs (shoes, hearing testing, Accident follow-up).
  • Deliver Continuous Improvement - Build capability, establish best practices, and use standardized work processes to improve safety performance.
  • Enhance the site capabilities in critical hazard program management, including but not limited to hazardous energy control; fall protection, mobile equipment and pedestrian interactions; powered industrial trucks; work permitting.
  • Respond to regulatory requests as needed.

Training and Development

  • Lead and Develop the Safety Committee to become the team of safety experts within each department.
  • Develop and contribute to safety policies, procedures, and training.

Leading Teams/ Project Coordination:

  • Establish and Lead the Safety Culture in the plant and on campus.
  • Develop and deploy safety risk reduction and accident reduction projects.
  • Develop Safety and Security capital projects through execution.
  • Ensure projects are completed without compromising safety, quality, or cost.
  • Manage contractors for associated projects as assigned.
  • Back-up to the EHS Manager in emergency response situations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to Safety through the Pillar.

Physical Demands:

  • Perform basic office tasks.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach and lift.
  • Must be able to stand on hard, wet, slippery surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Qualifications:

Skills & Knowledge

  • Functional knowledge of manufacturing operations, and process flow.
  • Knowledge of basic safety standards and how to determine compliance.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must have solid written and verbal communication skills

Experience

Required

  • 5 years' experience required in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a computer and with MS software.

Preferred

  • Previous experience implementing safety standards.
  • Experience leading lean manufacturing improvement initiatives

Education

Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, Environment, Engineering, or related discipline

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to attend specific training courses and educational opportunities as needed.
  • Flexibility to provide support to all shifts as needed
