Job Description

ChampionX is currently looking for a highly motivated Data Scientist in Houston, TX (Sugar Land or The Woodlands). The Data Scientist will be part of our Research and Development team as we continue to improve upon existing methods of methane detection and quantification. A successful candidate will be adept at data manipulation and analysis and can transform that data into a meaningful story. This position is ideal for an enthusiastic, curious, and creative problem solver who also brings coding experience (preferably Python) and a can-do attitude.

What You Will Do:

  • Analyze methane emission data collected by our SOOFIE sensors.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to perform experiments and validations in accordance with overall plan.

  • Collects, records, and analyzes data using established protocols and processes; communicates findings to other team members for review and feedback.

  • Assists in literature and presentations for peer review, publication, and delivery at industry and scientific events and conferences; creates patent applications and supporting documentation.

  • Translate business-relevant scientific, engineering, and commercial problems into questions that may be addressed using data science.

  • Undertake project tasks and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree (PhD or MS + 2 years' experience) in Atmospheric Science, Earth Sciences, Physics, or related field.

  • Comfortable presenting in front of an audience.

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft software suite and programming languages (Python).

  • Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of design, scientific procedures and processes, and data analysis.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

  • Complex programming experience and a strong desire to learn and grow in new advanced data techniques and software capabilities as the needs of the client change.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Self-Driven work ethic and can-do attitude.

  • 10% travel for conferences or team meetings.

  • No sponsorship will be provided for this role.
